Daniel Kitson tours his new show Collaborator

Work in progress based on his dislike of audience participation

Daniel Kitson has revealed details of his next project, based on his hatred of audience participation.

But the description of the show – Collaborator – sounds very much like the audience has to get involved.

It reads: ‘I dislike audience participation.

‘I think it’s creatively bankrupt, ethically questionable and if I see it mentioned in the blurb for a show, I will not attend due to moral objections and/or personal discomfort.

‘Anyway.

‘I’ve written something about that and it’s got just over 200 parts.’

He has announced a tour of work-in-progress shows, starting at The Dukes in Lancaster on Thursday. Other dates in Hove, Exeter, Cardiff, Scarborough and Belfast are also on sale with dates in Prescot and Birmingham in May going on sale soon.

It is designed to be staged in the round and in an email to his fans, Kitson added: ‘I will say, as shows go, especially my shows - it’s short and it's fun - aka the dream.’

The comic and theatre-maker has also just made his show Tree available to stream. First staged in Manchester’s Royal Exchange Theatre in 2013 then in London’s Old Vic in 2015 it features Tim Key as a man Kitson encounters sitting in a tree. Read our review here, or buy or rent the video here.
