But the project is shrouded in mystery

A new prequel to Red Dwarf is in the pipeline.

Rob Grant, the co-creator of the sci-fi comedy, revealed that the project will be called Red Dwarf: Titan.

However, it is not clear whether the idea will be a TV show, radio show, novel or some other format.

Grant made the announcement at a BFI event about time-bending films and TV shows at the weekend, as reported by RadioTimes.com and Red Dwarf fan site Ganymede & Titan.

The project, featuring a featuring Young Rimmer and Young Lister, will reportedly be written with 2point4 Children creator Andrew Marshall, who previously worked with Grant on the Radio 4 show Quanderhorn.

Speaking to Radio Times, Grant added: ‘I can’t say too much, but it’s a prequel and we’re very excited about it. Hopefully we’ll see it soon!"

This comes after Grant settled  a legal dispute  with the show's co-creator Doug Naylor, earlier this year. Naylor had been writing the TV series without his erstwhile partner since it was revived by the Dave channel

The new deal apparently allowed them both to work on separate Red Dwarf projects.

At the time, the pair issued a joint statement saying: ‘Moving onwards and upwards, Rob and Doug hope to launch separate iterations of Red Dwarf across various media, working again with the cast and other valued partners, and wish each other the very best.’
