Leo Reich gets an HBO special

Literally Who Cares?! also coming to Sky Comedy next month

Leo Reich’s first solo stand-up show has been made into a  comedy special to air on Sky Comedy next month – as well as on HBO in the States.

His show Literally Who Cares?!  – a hit of last year’s Edinburgh Fringe – was taped at Earth in Hackney, East London in September.

It is being made by US company A24, which has produced hit films including Everything Everywhere All at Once, Uncut Gems and Lady Bird as well as TV shows such as  At Home With Amy Sedaris and Dreaming Whilst Black .

Reich said: ‘To have been given the opportunity to turn this flamboyant, odd, over-the-top, exhausting show into a comedy special is a dream come true in itself. But to have been able to do it with A24 and HBO is beyond a dream.

‘Being able to make something with the most creative production house for the most innovative network is a privilege that usually only befalls like, Zendaya. I'm honoured that these storied institutions are risking their impeccable reputations by putting their names to my gay little comedy show. God bless them. Their funeral!’

A parody of self-obsessed Gen Z, the show is described as blending ‘songs, anecdotes, and anxious non-sequiturs in a valiant attempt to raise awareness about important social and political causes… or something.’

It earned Reich a best newcomer nomination at last year’s Fringe and was also shortlisted for most outstanding show at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival, before making an Off-Broadway run in New York.

Nina Rosenstein, HBO’s executive v responsible for comedy specials, said:  ‘When we first saw Leo, we were so struck by his incredible talent. He is a wickedly funny writer, a spectacular performer, and his musical numbers are nothing short of epic. He goes full force in this special and gives it so many rich layers, making it such a fun one to watch.’
