Ghosts announces surprise Christmas special

As comedy bows out after five series

Ghosts will sign off with a surprise Christmas special, it has been announced.

The fifth and final series of the hit comedy starts on BBC One on Friday - but the team behind the show have today revealed that there will be a festive episode too.

They posted on social media: ‘The final series of Ghosts starts on Friday... but there might be one last present under the Christmas tree this year #BBCGhosts.’

It follows the success of last year’s  special, which attracted  5.9million viewers, making it the biggest comedy of the year.

When the end of the series was announced earlier this year, the BBC said: ‘The team behind the smash-hit show have decided that after five series, it's time to wave goodbye to the inhabitants of Button House and focus on new projects.’

The show was created by Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond - who also play the ghosts
