Aberdeen could get a new comedy club

Council approves plans for 80-seat venue

Aberdeen looks set to get a new comedy club after the local council approved plans for an 80-seat venue.

Planners agreed that a hall behind St Andrew's Cathedral Church could be converted into the club.

The church’s rector, Rev Dr Isaac Poobalan, was listed as the applicant on the change-of-use proposal, which has been approved.

Agents Carden Project Management said on the application: ‘The proposed change of use is to allow for the space to be occupied for the activities associated with a comedy club, with a temporary stage, loose seating and the sale of bottled alcoholic beverages. No food to be sold.’

The seats would not be fixed to allow flexible layouts, and the permission granted this week allows the club to operate to 11pm. View the proposed layout here.

The applicant now has three years to change the venue, in Peacock's Close, into a comedy club else the permission lapses.
