Joe Wilkinson writes a book about his ‘utterly pointless life’
Joe Wilkinson has written an alleged autobiography about his ‘utterly pointless life’.
The book, illustrated by fellow comedian Henry Paker, will be published in November.
Publishers Transworld called the book ‘brilliantly absurd’ adding: ‘Through cartoon stories and illustrated adventures, Joe recounts the defining moments that have come to shape and scar him - from becoming the bad boy of fly tipping and growing into his areolas, to his car airbag addiction and the time he tunnelled too far out of prison and ended up in the prison next door.
‘Treating us to an assortment of genre-defying stories, Joe blows his readers' minds with the key events of his utterly pointless life. Hilarious, heart-warming and wildly entertaining, Joe Wilkinson: My Autobiography is the off-the-wall life story of one of our most beloved and unorthodox comedians.’
In a statement to trade website The Bookseller, Wilkinson said: ‘I didn’t think I’d done anything in my life, then after a bang on the head while potholing in the Mendips it all came flooding back to me.’
Paker – who previously illustrated all of Adam Kay's children's books – added: Joe is a darkly charismatic man and, I’m not going to lie, I fell under his spell. He flashed those eyes at me and before I knew it I was contractually obliged to illustrate this book.’
The blurb for the book describes Wilkinson as 'a regular figure on Kent's Sunday morning car boot sale scene, both as a vendor and a patron. He's ridden several bicycles and can put his fist in his mouth. He's never owned, read or written a book in his life.'
His TV appearances include Taskmaster, 8 Out of Ten Cats Does Countdown and Have I Got News For You, while he has acted in the likes of Derek, Afterlife and The Cockfields, which he co-wrote with David Earl.
