Breeders to end after four series

New episodes of Martin Freeman and Daisy Haggard comedy move the timeline forward again

Sky comedy Breeders, which stars Martin Freeman and Daisy Haggard as harassed parents, is to end after the forthcoming fourth series.

The final ten episodes will jump ahead five years compared to last year’s season and follow the Worsleys on the verge of splitting up. Graphics promoting the show suggest they now have a baby as well as teenagers Luke (Oscar Kennedy) and Ava (Zoë Athena).

Series four starts on American network FX on July 31, with episodes being dropped weekly on steaming service Hulu. It will air on Sky in the UK from October.

Breeders was created by Freeman along with Simon Blackwell, who is the showrunner, and Chris Addison, who directs the first five episodes of the new run.

Addison tweeted today: ‘Let’s torture these poor bastards one last time. The final season of Breeders is coming.’

Blackwell added: ‘Breeders is bowing out after its fourth season.’

Breeders previously jumped ahead in its timeline between season one, when Luke and Ava were very young, and season two, when they were 13 and 10.

Blackwell explained at the time the decision was ‘partly… the surprise of it for the viewers, and also because it would keep us on our toes and stop us getting into a rut and possibly repeating ourselves.’
