Cathy comes home
Doon Mackichan is to return to Two Doors Down – as the sitcom is promoted from BBC Two to BBC One.
The comic decided to leave the comedy last series, so was written out, with her character Cathy said to have left her husband Colin, as played by Jonathan Watson, for a new life in Sharm El Sheikh.
But as filming gets under way on the seventh series in Scotland, it has been revealed that the former Smack The Pony star is returning to Latimer Crescent.
She said: ‘I have missed the Two Doors Down family very much so it’s a genuine delight to see Cathy bring her unique brand of community spirit back to Latimer Crescent. Beth - get a bottle open.’
Co-creators Gregor Sharp and Simon Carlyle said in a statement: ‘Doon is one of the UK’s very best comic actors, so we’re thrilled to bits that she’s returned to pick up Cathy’s vape and rejoin the rest of our brilliant cast.’
Steven Canny, executive producer for BBC Studios , added: "It’s a total pleasure to welcome Doon back to the family. We’ve been making Two Doors Down for a decade and couldn’t be happier that Cathy has come home again.’
The rest of the core cast back for this series of six episodes, including Arabella Weir as Beth, Alex Norton as Eric, Elaine C Smith as Christine, Jamie Quinn as Ian, Kieran Hodgson as Gordon, Joy McAvoy as Michelle, and Graeme ‘Grado’ Stevely as Alan.
Two Doors Down’s audience has grown with each series. The most recent Christmas special attracted its highest viewing figures to date with 2.8million watching the special across 30 days.
