Wednesday June 14
STAGED: The third series of David Tennant and Michael Sheen’s hit show comes to BBC One, having previously aired on streaming service BritBox. Originally conceived in lockdown, the comedy also stars the leads’ wives, Georgia Tennant and Anna Lundberg, all as fictional versions of themselves. The new episodes are 22 minutes each, longer than the 15 minutes of the first two seasons – and revolve around director Simon Evans' attempts to get Tennant and Sheen to work on a new project with him. COUNT ABDULLA: This week's new ITVX comedy revolves around a mid-twenties British Muslim doctor (Arian Nik) stuck in an identity crisis, caught between his religious mother and his secular, hedonistic friends. But when Abdulla is bitten by a vampire (Jaime Winstone), he becomes the outsider’s outsider.
BLACKADDER: THE LOST PILOT: To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the classic sitcom, Tony Robinson goes back to track down the test episode - of which he was not a part. In the documentary, he speaks writesr Richard Curtis and Ben Elton before a screening of the never-before-broadcast pilot. Gold, 9pm It's followed by Blackadder: A Cunning Story at the same time tomorrow featuring talking-head interviews with fans including Jack Whitehall, Darren Harriott, Ardal O'Hanlon and Nina Wadia as well as archive interviews with Rowan Atkinson, Ben Elton, Richard Curtis, Stephen Fry and producer John Lloyd. QUEEN OF OZ: Catherine Tate plays Princess Georgie, a minor royal whose party girl lifestyle and constant public scandals threaten the monarchy's future. In an effort to get her as far away from London as possible, she's dispatched to Australia to become their Queen - and on arrival an offensive faux pas makes things go from bad to worse.
