Mark Olver's lockdown panel show becomes an app

Now fans – and an AI bot – can play Who Said That?

A YouTube panel show hosted by comedian Mark Olver during lockdown has been turned into a mobile phone app.

In Who Said That? friends ask each other questions, anonymously submit answers, and then try to work out whose answer is whose.

A ChatGPT-generated extra answer can also be added to see if players can figure out which response comes from artificial intelligence.

The show was launched in 2020, with players including James Acaster, Joel Dommett, Kerry Godliman, Richard Osman, Rosie Jones, Russell Howard, Jon Richardson, Ed Gamble, Lou Sanders and Richard Herring.

Also released as a podcast, it attracted 250,000 viewers and listeners and helped Olver win a Chortle Legend Of Lockdown Award.

The app was developed by London-based producer Simon Gummer who also created the YouTube series. He spent a year learning how to code so he could turn his idea into an app.

He believes it is the first time a panel show has made the jump from an online series to  become a game fans can play themselves.

Gummer said: ‘After incredible feedback for the panel show from audiences worldwide, it’s brilliant that people can now play Who Said That? themselves.

‘I can't believe how well Alan BOT, our ChatGPT player, does at fooling everyone. It gives a great spin to the game and has everyone doubting their guesses and how well they really know their friends’

Who Said That? is available on Android and Apple’s iOS.
