Comic shares her disgust at sexist heckle
Comedian Marjolein Robertson has called out a man for making the ‘grossest’ sexual heckle that made her feel ‘horrible’ during her Edinburgh Fringe show.
The punter told the stand-up he had been imagining her naked during her performance at The Stand – and although Robertson put him in his place, she later spoke of how ‘dirty’ the misogynistic comment made her feel.
In a video posted on social media, she explained: ‘Today I was doing my Fringe show and there's a certain part where I ask someone to imagine a landmark of a city of their choice and I guess it, and I worked with this audience member and the bit went well.
‘But then we moved onto another part of the show and then they piped up voluntarily, and this man was saying "I didn't actually imagine Rome, I was actually imaging you naked".
‘It was horrible and the whole room was like "ugh". I always wondered what I would do with a bad heckler comment and I was quite proud of myself because in the moment I just verbally took him right down while making the room laugh.
‘But at the time it was horrible because no matter how far you get as a woman in comedy and making the room laugh and having the gig in your hands, when you get a shitty comment like that it makes you feel dirty.
‘It's not on, don't be a heckler, don't be a creep and don't view a woman at her work as your misguided sexual fantasy.’
Had the grossest uncalled for heckle today at my fringe show. It's not on. Don't be a heckler, don't be a creep and don't view a woman at her work as your misguided sexual fantasy. pic.twitter.com/Gd6NZAP6Ji

Robertson, who is from the Shetlands, immediately received support from fans and fellow comedians, with Mark Nelson tweeting simply: ‘Fucks sake.’ Janey Godley added: ‘Sending hugs and solidarity’
Her show, Thank God Fish Don't Have Hands, continues at 4pm daily.
