BBC axes Zoe Lyons quiz show Lightning

...it won't be striking three times

The BBC has axed Zoe Lyons quiz show Lightning after two series.

The comic broke the news on Twitter, posting an image of the shiny suit she wore on the show and the caption: ‘Sadly all good quizes must come to an end but I can't tell you what a joy it was to work on  @lightningquiz for @bbc2.

‘We made 2 cracking series and I loved every second of working with my pals at BBC Belfast. Every contestant was a star.’

The show launched in a 6.30pm weekday slot in early 2021, and the second series ran this spring. It mixed quickfire questions with physical challenges - although that aspect was later axed – as contestants tried to win a £3,000 jackpot.

When the second run launched, Lyons said she hoped Lightning would become a long-running show.  'I hope it runs until I'm 80,' she said. 'It'll be me in my shiny suit and a Farrah Fawcett wig – that's the dream!'
