The Young Ones arrive on iPlayer

With Blackadder, Mum and Rev coming soon

Classic comedies including The Young Ones,  Blackadder, Mum, Rev and 2point4 Children are being added to the BBC’s iPlayer to help the Corporation celebrate its 100th year.

More than 1,000 box sets are being made available via the streaming services in total, with the likes dinnerladies, Keeping Up Appearances, The Royle Family and Gavin & Stacey also included.

The Young Ones has just been added – complete with the warning that one of the episodes ‘contains discriminatory language’, similar to the disclaimed added to show on BritBox, as Chortle reported last month. The third instalment, Boring, contains some of the strongest racial language, used in a sketch to mock the prejudices of the police.

2point4 Children has also been added already with  Blackadder, Mum and Rev coming later.

Other comedy shows on the platform include The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, One Foot In The Grave, The Office, Miranda, Little Britain, My Family, Still Game, Porridge,  Citizen Khan, Detectorists and Still Open All Hours.

Dan McGolpin, director of BBC iPlayer, said: ‘There’s no better time than during the BBC’s centenary year to discover a classic BBC series that you’ve never seen before or to watch one of your favourites again.

‘From comedy series that re-wrote the rules, such as The Young Ones or The Royle Family through to ground-breaking comic drama for 2022 like This Is Going To Hurt, there’s something for everyone on BBC iPlayer.’
