BBC orders a second series of children's sci-fi comedy

The BBC has ordered two more series of kids sci-fi comedy  Nova Jones, created by Motherland writer Helen Serafinowicz.

The series stars singer Molly Rainford in the title role as the biggest pop star in the galaxy.

A total of 20 new episodes have been commissioned after series one was streamed over a million times on BBC iPlayer.

Filming is under way in Belfast on series 2, which is due to air later this year, with series 3 to follow in 2023.

The series’s head writer is Andrew Ellard, who was previously script editor for Miranda, Detectorists and Red Dwarf, with original songs written by Matthew Graham and Jessica Hammond.
