New track from Pictish Trail

James Acaster stars in a new music video from Pictish Trail, released today

The video for It Came Back starts with a Zoom-style interview in which the Scottish musician – real name Johnny Lynch – is put out by the comic describing him as ‘niche’ and ‘not destined for greatness.’

‘Are you destined to remain in obscurity?’Acaster asks bluntly, before expressing incredulity that he could possibly be making a living from his music.

Director Sam Wisternoff said: ‘U wanted it to feel as though the video was turning in on itself, mutating and coming apart at the seams. Stuck at home isolation distorting reality

Pictish Trail previously toured with Acaster and Josie Long, and they narrowly escaped death in a road accident involving a lorry carrying logs – an incident which inspired his track Dead Connection.

The single is described as mixing understated verses with ‘tense, foreboding bass-driven electro hip-hop accompaniment [that]  bursts to life with an arms-aloft falsetto chorus, and a brain-shattering industrial metal meltdown. ‘

It comes from Pictish Trail’s fifth album Island Family, which is released on March 18 to  coincide with his UK tour.
