First full run of episodes in nine years

Mrs Brown’s Boys is to return for its first full series in almost a decade, it has been reported.

Brendan O’Carroll’s sitcom ran for three series from 2011 to 2013 – and although BBC One has aired both a Christmas and New Year special every year since, the new episodes will be the first full run in those nine years.

The Sun reports that the cast  – largely drawn from O’Carroll’s family, including wife Jennifer Gibney, daughter Fiona, son Danny, and sister Eilish – have been booked to film new episodes in April.

It quotes an unnamed source saying: ‘Everyone is very excited. It’s lovely to be working on another series. The cast can’t wait to see Brendan’s scripts.’

The sitcom peaked at 11.4million viewers for its 2013 Christmas specials – and has even been voted  best sitcom of the 21st Century so far.

But the audience was down to an average of 4.68million for the last festive double bill.

O’Carroll has also previously said he has a BBC deal to make Christmas specials for five more years.

He has also made four series of the entertainment format All Round To Mrs Brown’s.
