For a New Year’s special

Aisling Bea is to appear in a Doctor Who New Year’s special.

The comic will play Sarah, who runs a storage company called Elf, which gets a visit from Nick (Adjani Salmon) every New Year’s Eve.

The episode, which will air on January 1, will also feature Father Ted and Shameless star Pauline McLynn – although details of her role have not yet been revealed.

It is one of three Doctor Who specials airing in 2022, culminating in the last episode to feature Jodie Whittaker as the Time Lord as the character regenerates again.

The current series of BBC One’s long-running sci-fi drama also stars comic John Bishop as the Doctor’s companion, Dan.
