Vic Reeves publishes bird book
Vic Reeves is publishing a book of his drawing of birds.
The title – called simply Birds and released under his real name, Jim Moir – will feature 80 illustrations, each accompanied by a single ornithological fact.
The comedian and artist has been interested in birds since he was a child, and in an interview last year said: ‘I loved bird watching as a kid and I could probably tell you what any bird was, to this day. I’m a big wildlife fan. It’s really important.’
Publisher Unbound say: ‘The simplicity and sincerity of his bird paintings have given them cult status among his fans’.
And they make an asset of the scarcity of factual details by claiming: ‘Without the padding of ornithological statistics or long descriptions, this is a book that reminds us why we love birds: because of the shapes, colours and sounds they bring into our lives.’
Information in the book includes the fact that lapwing has more nicknames than any other British bird, including flopwing, horneywink, lipwingle, lymptwigg, peesieweep and wallock?
The company is a crowdfunded publisher and copies of Moir’s pocket-sized book are available to pre-order from £20, or £30 for a signed one, among other rewards. Ten percent of the profits will be donated to the RSPB..
