Vegas's gamble
Channel 4 is to show Johnny Vegas’s attempts to set up the UK’s country’s coolest campsite next month.
In the four-part series, Carry On Glamping, the comic and his long-suffering assistant Bev (below) buy up a selection of vintage vehicles, including an old Maltese bus, for their project.
The show was first announced two years ago when it was entitled Llas Vegas, to reflect the original Welsh setting of their project.
But the broadcaster now says that several potential sites for the business fell through until a farm in the Yorkshire countryside offered to house the campsite.
When the show was originally revealed, Vegas said: ‘I bought a bus online. Not because it’s what showbiz folk do, but because my camping van got nicked and it had been my wee bit of creative space heaven.’
He added that he had been ‘borrowing cash, sorting out red tape via Bev and taking a risk on the fact that other folk will want to spend time in a place that feels special, but added: ‘I’m not the most organised person, but I tend to invest in passion.’
The show will now launch on Channel 4 on May 5 at 10pm, with the full series available on demand on All4 immediately afterwards.
Vegas previously starred in the BBC comedy Home From Home, playing a man who brought a wooden lodge on a holiday site in the Lake District.
The new series was confirmed as Channel 4 announced its spring schedule today, including Tom Allen's prime-time quiz, Quizness, and another series of The Last Leg.
