Sindhu Vee joins Matilda film
Sindhu Vee has joined the cast of the new movie version of Roald Dahl’s Matilda, based on Tim Minchin’s musical.
The stand-up will play Mrs Phelps, the librarian, in the film, which will be distributed on Netflix – except in the UK where it is headed for a cinema release.
Vee previously played Karen in Mae Martin’s Channel 4 comedy Feel Good, and Olivia’s mum in two episodes of Sex Education.
Matilda’s producers today also announced thatS tephen Graham, from This Is England and Line of Duty and Andrea Riseborough, whose credits include The Death of Stalin, have also joined the cast as Matilda’s parents.
The film is being directed by Matthew Warchus, who also oversaw the stage version of the hit musical, written by Dennis Kelly, with music and lyrics by Minchin.
As previously announced, Alisha Weir, will play the title role, Emma Thompson will be her nemesis Miss Trunchbull, and Lashana Lynch the sympathetic Miss Honey.
When the film was announced, Warchus said: ‘Matilda will be an imaginative and fresh retelling of the award-winning musical.… I look forward to introducing this beloved and powerful story to a new generation of fans around the world.’
