Borat Subsequent Moviefilm up for Golden Globes

Nominees announced today

Borat Subsequent Moviefilm is up for three major accolades in this year’s Golden Globe Awards.

The film has been shortlisted for best comedy or musical movie while stars Sacha Baron Cohen and Maria Bakalova are up for acting awards.

Baron Cohen has also been nominated in a separate category for his supporting role in the drama The Trial of the Chicago 7.

In reaction to the news, he said he was 'overwhelmed and humbled' adding: 'These nominations are a tribute to the talented creative teams that led and supported both films from inception to this moment.

'I especially want to congratulate the visionary of Chicago 7, Aaron Sorkin, and Borat's Tutar, the incredible Maria Bakalova. These two films are different, but they share a common theme - sometimes we have to protest injustice with our own farce.

'Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for this ridiculous amount of nominations. I'm so honoured - and in the event that we don't win, I promise to hire Rudy Giuliani to contest the results.'

Fellow nominees for best actor in a comedy or musical include  James Corden for  The Prom, Lin-Manuel Miranda for Hamilton and Dev Patel for The Personal History of David Copperfield.

In other categories, nominees include  Olivia Colman for The Crown and her forthcoming film The Father, Jodie Comer for Killing Eve, Hugh Grant for  The Undoing and  Daisy Edgar-Jones for Normal People.
