Netflix buys Ricky Gervais's next series
Netflix has bought Ricky Gervais’s next TV show - even though he hasn’t decided what it is yet.
The comic says he is considering three different projects once he’s finished work on After Life's third and final season.
Speaking to SiriusXM in the States, Gervais explained: ‘I've got it down to three totally different ideas and Netflix has already bought it.
‘I told them I want to end After Life now and so they said, "OK, we want the next thing".
‘We will just start with the next thing, same deal, but I don't know which one I'm going to go for. I can't even think about it yet. I have got the outline of three completely different sorts of sitcoms and shows.’
Without being too precise about the ideas he said only: ‘One of them is a sitcom. One is probably more sitcommy than anything I've ever done. I can't tell you anything about it in case someone rips it off!’
‘I don't know what to do because again it will be three years of my life and then you go, "Oh, I wish I did the other thing"!’
In 2018, Netflix brought Gervais’s next stand-up special for a reported $20million – again before he’d even thought about a theme or a title.
After being delayed by coronavirus, the show has now been called SuperNature and will tour in the autumn of next year before being recorded for the streaming platform.
