Major festive comedy gigs scrapped

Customers too 'worried about safety' to attend

An attempt to run a series of large-scale comedy gigs before Christmas has been abandoned, because customers were too wary about attending.

Pub In The Park had planned to stage socially distanced, pop-up 'festive theatre' events in St Albans, Marlow and Bicester this month.

As well as comedy, featuring the likes of Mark Watson, Reginald D Hunter, Ed Byrne and Angela Barnes, the mini-festivals were due to incorporate dance, Christmas movies, carol concerts and food from Michelin-starred Tom Kerridge.

However, the events have now been pulled with just days to go.

In a statement, the organisers said: 'It has become clear to us since we have put our Festive Theatre events on sale, that the majority of our customers are worried about the safety of a walk-in event at this time.

'As we are only here to put on safe and comfortable experiences for our guests, we have made the difficult decision to not proceed with these events.'

Pub In The Park had previously organised a series of drive-in comedy gigs, again spearheaded by Watson, over the summer.
