After cop show becomes Sky's biggest new comedy in eight years

Sky has ordered a second series of its spoof cop show Code 404 after it became the broadcaster’s biggest comedy launch in eight years.

The show stars Daniel Mays as crimefighter DI John Major who is gunned down on the job but brought back to life as part of an artificial intelligence project. Stephen Graham plays his partner  Roy Carver and Anna Maxwell Martin his wife.

Episode one went out on April 29 and amassed 1.9million viewers in its first seven days.

Code 404 is also Sky’s ‘fastest binged’ comedy box set ever, with more than 360,000 viewers watching the whole six-episode series before episode 2 aired on linear television.

Jon Mountague, director of comedy at Sky Studios said: ‘We’re blown away by the love our customers have shown Code 404 and we’re ecstatic to be working on the second series.’

The show has also been exported worldwide, including the US, where it will premiere on Peacock, NBCUniversal’s new streaming service, Russia and South Korea.
