Blooming brilliant!
Natasia Demetriou is to co-host new Netflix series The Big Flower Fight with Vic Reeves, the streaming service has announced today.
Chortle first revealed that Reeves was to front the show, dubbed a Bake Off for horticulturalists, back in October.
Now the broadcaster has confirmed that eight hour-long episodes will launch on May 18, with What We Do In The Shadows and Stath Lets Flats star Demetriou as his co-presenter.
Reeves said: ‘I had the most wonderful summer watching immense floral sculptures emerge from nothing with my favourite co-presenter Tash.’
Demetriou added: ‘Working with Vic Reeves in a beautiful English field surrounded by loads of chicken wire - it’s every person's dream job.’
It’s hoped their pairing will add the same sort of comedy chemistry that Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins, and Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig have brought to the Great British Bake Off.
Reeves, real name Jim Moir, is a keen gardener and countryside enthusiast and has previously hand-made flowers for the National Trust's A Plant in Time exhibition.
The Big Flower Fight is part of Netflix's burgeoning non-scripted slate of programming in the UK and its first commission from Multistory Media. The company’s Ana de Moraes, who previously developed First Dates and The Choir, created the show.
Over the series, ten creative teams will have to create huge flower installations, judged by ‘florist to the stars’, Kristen Griffith-VanderYacht, along with a special co-judge each week.
He said: ‘My mission is to help flowers finally get the respect they deserve. This isn't your basic bunch of blooms. This is the real deal. So buckle up and get your shovel ready for some farm fresh floral fantasy realness.’
Other expert judges making an appearance in the series include; Simon Lycett, James Wong, James Alexander-Sinclair, Sarah Eberle and Sophie Walker.
The ultimate winner of The Big Flower Fight will get to designing their own sculpture to go on display in London’s Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.
