Just seven dates so far - but free tickets to NHS staff

Johnny Vegas has announced his first live tour in more than a decade.

The comic is dipping his toe in the water with seven dates across the UK in October.

He and his promoters, M&B, are also offering 1,000 free tickets across the gigs for NHS workers, ‘to acknowledge the amazing job the NHS is currently doing’.

During the lockdown, the comic is working with charities in his home town of St Helens to help get essentials to vulnerable residents and NHS staff.

Dates in Plymouth, Swindon, Coventry, Sunderland, Norwich , Kettering and Cheltenham follow a series of night he hosed at Just the Tonic Comedy Club before the lockdown came into effect, which were billed as a precursor to a full-on tour next year.

On all the dates announced today, Vegas will be accompanied by a full supporting bill, with comics including Angelos Epithemiou  and Stephen Bailey sharing the stage,

Vegas has done occasional stand-up performances in the past but has concentrated on acting and directing on shows such as Ideal, Still Open All Hours, Home From Home, Benidorm and Gold’s feature-length murder-mysteries – as well as regular panel show appearances.

When he quit stand-up he said he was becoming increasingly disillusioned with live work as the more famous he became, the less of a challenge it was to win over audiences.
