Peter Kay's Dance For Life shelved

Comic's comeback as a DJ hit by coronavirus

Peter Kay’s return to the stage has been cancelled because of the coronavirus outbreak.

The comedian had been set for a return to the spotlight as a DJ at six  Dance For Life charity fundraisers in April and May.

But this morning it became yet another casualty of the lockdown.

Kay said:  ‘Obviously this is disappointing news but well and truly justified given the circumstances. We’ll get through this, together and then we’ll all have a great big dance for life. Stay safe and look after yourselves and the people around you.’

The events, in aid of Cancer Research UK, would have marked a return to the spotlight for the comedian, who in 2017 cancelled what would have been his first tour for eight years, citing ‘unforeseen family circumstances’.

Organisers of Dance For Life said they hoped to reschedule in future.

In a statement, they said: ‘Due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak and following Government advice, it is with deep regret that the forthcoming Peter Kay’s Dance For Life shows are being postponed.

‘We are looking to schedule the shows so please hold onto your tickets as they will be valid for the new dates. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but the safety of the public is paramount.’

This morning the Glastonbury Festival was also called off because of the outbreak.
