Penny Dreadfuls do Richard III

New special for Radio 4

Comedy group The Penny Dreadfuls are to make another historic comedy-drama for Radio 4, this time about Richard III.

In their special, they challenge Shakespeare’s portrayal of  a conniving and treacherous hunchback and depict him as an honest and loyal knight with only a slight spinal kink, nothing you’d notice if you weren't looking for it’.

‘This is the story of how a good man became the first victim of fake news,’ the troupe say.

The show was written by David Reed who stars alongside Humphrey Ker, Thom Tuck and Margaret Cabourn-Smith.

It will be their tenth show for Radio 4 having previously covered the likes of  Odysseus, Charles Darwin, Guy Fawkes and John le Carré.

The show is being recorded on Sunday Match 8 at the  BBC Radio Theatre in Broadcasting House, Central London. Click here to apply for free tickets.
