The $30million king of podcasts

Joe Rogan tops Forbes rich list

Let no one say there's no money in podcasts.

US comedian Joe Rogan made an astonishing $30 million (£23 million) from his podcast last year, according to financial website Forbes.

The stand-up and UFC commentator topped its inaugural list of the highest-earning podcasters, for the show he started more than a decade ago.

Rogan, who has almost 6million Twitter followers, is no without controversy, with critics pointing to his history of giving platforms to conspiracy theories and making comments criticised as racist or transphobic.

Nonetheless, last month he came out in favour of progressive Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders.

Rogan's estimated earnings are twice as much as the second ranked Forbes podcast, My Favorite Murder, which earns Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark an estimated £15million.

And an eye-opening fact from the article that reported Rogan's wealth: there are more than 900,000 podcasts in circulation, according to search engine Listen Notes.
