Sharon Horgan to make a US animated comedy
Sharon Horgan is making an animated series for America’s Fox network about a group of suburban animals.
As well as as being one of the showrunners of Housebroken, the Catastrophe star will also voice one of the lead roles, along with Friends star Lisa Kudrow.
The show was the brainchild of Handmaid’s Tale star Clea DuVall, who will also voice one of the characters, after she considered how she would get on better with her cat if they understood each other more.
According to Hollywood website Deadline, she shared the idea with Veep producers Jennifer Crittenden and Gabrielle Allan, when she was on the political comedy playing Marjorie Palmiotti, the wife of Selina Meyer’s daughter Catherine.
Now the animation, which had the working title Therapy Dog, has been picked up for a series by Fox.
Its other stars include Nat Faxon, who plays Elfo in Matt Groening’s Netflix animation Disenchantment, The Last Man On Earth’s Will Forte and Tony Hale, who was Gary Walsh in Veep.
Horgan is making the show through her links with US production house Kapital Entertainment
She and Kapital are also piloting a comedy called Delilah for HBO Max, based on a script she wrote with Aisling Bea, about a woman who imposes herself on a man who may or may not be her real father. She is also working on Shining Vale, a half-hour horror comedy and is set to star in the upcoming Amazon show Game Night.
Horgan has also signed an exclusive first-look deal at Apple, while her own production company Merman, run with Clelia Mountford, also has a deal at Sky.
