BBC Scotland pilots three new comedies

From the creators of Burnistoun, The Book Group and more

BBC Scotland is to pilot three new comedy shows next year.

The broadcaster has commissioned half-hour episodes of The Scotts, Group and the Daly Grind to air in the new year.

The Scotts, pictured above, comes from Burnistoun duo Robert Florence and Iain Connell  who play brothers with a love/hate relationship. Their wives are played by Shauna Macdonald and Sharon Young and their sister by Louise McCarthy.

Makers The Comedy Unit say: ‘The Scotts mixes comic scenes with candid pieces-to-camera capturing the petty squabbles, hidden secrets, mini triumphs and major disasters of an everyday Scottish family.’

It also stars Barbara Rafferty, Taylor Stewart, Amy Leith and Jamie MacDonald.

Group is set in a therapy session for addicts and is written by  The Book Group creator Annie Griffin and crime writer Denise Mina.

Made by Pirate Productions, it stars Lois Chimimba, Bhav Joshi, Lucianne McEvoy, Grant O’Rourke, Sally Reid, Derek Riddell and Jonathan Watson.

Described as a ‘fresh and fast-paced family comedy’, the Daly Grind, centres on a devoted mother of three struggling with the chaos of her daily household routine.

Made by BBC Studios, it stars Scarlett Mack, Jordan Young, Rachel Doherty, Cameron Wilke and Bea Tena-Hutchinson, It was created by brothers, John and Dominic Reynolds.

Gavin Smith, who commissioned the shows for BBC Scotland, says: ‘Family and relationships are at the heart of all three shows and each taps in to the stressful side of modern Scottish life in their own unique way. We hope audiences love the new comedy characters coming through on BBC Scotland.’
