Ghosts could be getting a US remake
BBC One comedy Ghosts could be set for an American remake.
Hollywood website Deadline reports that the CBS network is developing its own adaptation with New Girl’s executive producers Joe Port and Joe Wiseman.
The pair are also writing a new script based on the original in which a young couple inherit a country house, only to find it’s haunted – but only the woman can see the ghosts.
It was created by the team behind Horrible Histories – Mathew Baynton, Jim Howick, Simon Farnaby, Laurence Rickard, Ben Willbond and Martha Howe-Douglas – who all will all be executive producers on the US version.
They also starred as ghosts on the BBC original alongside Lolly Adefope and Katy Wix, while Charlotte Ritchie and Kiell Smith-Bynoe played the couple.
The BBC has already ordered a a second and third series of the show, which first aired in April.
Episode one attracted 2.5million viewers overnight, but within 28 days that had grown to 5.5million on catch-up.
Critical response was positive too Michael Hogan in The Daily Telegraph called it a ‘deliriously daft supernatural romp,’; Christopher Stevens in the Daily Mail said any resistance to the cornier jokes was overwhelmed by ‘a landslide of puns and slapstick that comes so fast you can’t possibly catch it all in a single viewing’; and Pat Stacey in the Irish Independent called it ‘joyously, infectiously silly, yet at the same time whip-smart’.
