His classic car careers off the road in Malibu

Kevin Hart has suffered serious back injuries after being in a serious car accident. 

He was a passenger in his classic 1970 Plymouth Barracuda when it came off the road in the early hours of this morning. It careered into a 10ft  deep gully.

The accident happened on Mulholland Highway in Malibu, California, and no other vehicles were involved.

The driver of the car, named as Jared S. Black, also suffered serious injuries. A second passenger, Black’s fiancée Rebecca Broxterman, escaped relatively unharmed.

A statement from the California Highway Patrol said Black was 'determined not to be under the influence of alcohol’.

Photographs from the scene on gossip website TMZ show the roof of the car was completely demolished. 

Hart was initially driven away from the accident by a member of his entourage to get medical attention at his nearby home, but was later taken to Northridge Hospital.

The comedian bought the car in July as a 40th birthday gift to himself. It featured in last year’s The Fate of the Furious, the eighth movie in the Fast And The Furious franchise.

Tomorrow is Labor Day in the US, and holiday weekends typically result in more car accidents than normal.
