Rebel Wilson to host the company's first Australian commission

Amazon is launching its first original programming in Australia: a TV comedy competition with a £55,000 first prize.

LOL: Last One Laughing will be hosted by Rebel Wilson and  will pitch ten Australian comic actors and stand-ups against each other.

The aim is to make each other laugh. The one who holds out the longest, while forcing other contestants to laugh first, is the winner.

Versions of the format have already been made for Mexican and Japanese viewers.

The Australian version will be shot in Sydney in the coming months by  Endemol Shine Australia and premiere exclusively on Amazon's Prime Video service in 2020. Which ‘leading Australian comedians’ will be taking part are yet to be announced.

Wilson said: ‘I can't wait to see what these talented Australian comedians come up with and how far they'll go to take home the prize.’

James Farrell, head of International Originals for Amazon Studios, said ‘Australia was an easy choice for the next country to bring this to and Rebel Wilson was the top of our list to host and star.’
