Hannah Gadsby’s TED Talk

Some rather predictably joked that her groundbreaking stand-up show Nanette was more TED Talk than comedy. Now Hannah Gadsby has officially given such a speech about her approach to her craft.

She says: ‘Many have argued that Nanette is not a comedy show. And while I can agree that Nanette is definitely not a comedy show... those people are still wrong. Because they've framed their argument as a way of saying I failed to do comedy. I did not fail to do comedy. I took everything I knew about comedy, all the tricks, the tools, the know-how, and with it, I broke comedy.’ Watch here:

Conversations with Criminals

Comedian Matt Price’s contribution to the true crime genre ‘does what it says on the tin’ as the comedian meets criminals in an attempt to work out what makes them tick.

It’s a subject he’s keen to get an understanding of since his partner, fellow comedian Martha McBrier, was attacked by a neighbour in Glasgow, a small-time drug dealer, in 2007, leaving her with lasting health effects.

Despite that, Price said: ‘The podcast is very funny in parts as people on the wrong side of the law tend to have a very dark sense of humour. One guy jokes about being tied up, held at gun point and having petrol poured over him. He does so with the timing and humour of a stand up comedian.

‘I'm looking at different types of crimes and getting a variety of perspectives. I ask questions that had I have taken revenge against the man who attacked my partner all those years ago, I may well have had to answer myself.

‘I've met a man who attacked someone with an axe, a guy who robbed drug dealers and an ex-policeman who went to jail for taking violent revenge on someone who attacked his daughter, as well as many others.’

Anthony Jeselnik: Fire in the Maternity Ward

The depraved comic’s latest special lands on Netflix, with the joke always being what a piece of shit he is for thinking up such horrific lines and images.
