But then it's all over for the Dunphys and the Pritchetts

Sky One sitcom Modern Family is to return for an 11th and final series.

America’s ABC network have commissioned a reported 18-episode run to start later this year.

Stars Ed O’Neill, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet and Sofia Vergara will all return alongside the actors who play their children and grandchildren: Sarah Hyland, Ariel Winter, Nolan Gould , Rico Rodriguez,  Aubrey Anderson-Emmons and Jeremy Maguire

Karey Burke, president of ABC Entertainment, said: ‘In its final season, there will be more milestone events that anyone who has been a fan of the series won’t want to miss.’

Co-creator Christopher Lloyd  said: ‘For 10 years, our characters have bravely faced turning points in life and moved through them to great personal enrichment; we have chosen a different path by doing one more season of Modern Family.’

And his fellow showrunner Steven Levitan added: ‘Even after 10 years together, we realized there are still some things our writers don’t yet know about each other’s sex lives.’

The show remains in the top five best-rated comedies on American network TV and  Vergara is the world’s highest paid TV actress, raking in an estimated $42.5million (£32.8million) last year after topping up her Modern Family salary with commercial endorsements.
