This Is Going To Hurt beats Michelle Obama to non-fiction crown

Adam Kay’s NHS memoirs, This Is Going To Hurt, has been named the second best selling non-fiction book of 2018.

The medic-turned-comedian’s funny and bittersweet diaries sold more than 500,000 copies over the year.

He beat Becoming Michelle Obama into second place, narrowly outselling her by around 7,500 copies. However the former First Lady’s memoirs were only released in November.

Both were eclipsed by Gail Honeyman’s novel Eleanor Elephant Is Completely Fine, which was the best-seller of the year.

Overall, book sales grew by 627,000 over the past 12 months, to 190.8 million– selling for a collective £.63billion.

Adam Kay is appearing at the Chortle Comedy Book festival at the British Library in London on Sunday January 13. Click here for more details.
