Fourth series for The Good Place

Fantasy comedy renewed for 2019

The Good Place has been renewed for a fourth season.

NBC has announced the comedy-fantasy – which also airs on Netflix internationally – will return in its 2019-2020 season.

The news comes as the show is about to take a brief Christmas break. Tomorrow’s episode will be the last until January, when the final three episodes of season three will air.

Stars Kristen Bell, Ted Danson, William Jackson Harper,  D’Arcy Carden, Jameela Jamil and Manny Jacinto are all expected to return.

NBC Entertainment co-presidents Tracey Pakosta and Lisa Katz, said in a statement: ’Congratulations to [creator] Mike Schur and an exceptional cast and crew, all of whom collaborate to create a thoughtful, mind-bending and hysterical series unlike anything else on television. We can’t wait to see what unexpected stories the new season will bring.’

The series has been averaging 4.6 million viewers per episode in the US, down 16 percent on last year. But that figure - based on viewing within seven days of broadcast – more than doubles with streaming and further delayed viewing after five weeks, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
