Eddie Izzard announces 2019 tour
Eddie Izzard has announced the UK and Ireland dates for his 2019 tour, Wunderbar.
And the Labour-supporting europhile has hinted it may be one of his last stand-up tours before heading into politics.
He said: ‘It is getting close to the time when I have to go off for a while to have a political life. But before I do that, I want to keep giving audiences around the world the best stand-up comedy shows that I can – especially at a time of Brexit-hate and Trump-hate. M
‘My new show is about everything from humans over the last 100,000 years to talking dogs and animal superheroes. I am looking forward to coming to see everyone again.’
It comes five years after he unveiled his last tour, Force Majeure, which played in 45 countries and all 50 US States, and in four languages.
Similarly, Wunderbar will be multi-lingual. It began life at La Nouvelle Seine, a floating theatre in Paris where Izzard improvised material show in French. He then did the same in Berlin in German before developing it further in English – including a run at London’s intimate Bill Murray pub last week.
It promises to be a ‘rather personal show which expands on his own very unique, totally surreal view of life, love, history and his theory of the universe’.
The 43 UK and Irish dates – in English – kick off in his old hometown of Bexhill-on-Sea in Sussex on September 15.
A short run of Australian dates has already been announced for February and March, too.
