The new sitcom from the Horrible Histories team

Fresh Meat star Charlotte Ritchie is joining the cast of Ghosts, the new sitcom from the team behind Horrible Histories.

The actress, also known for her work in Call The Midwife, will play Alison,   who inherits a haunted house called Button Hall with her partner Mike (Kiell Smith-Bynoe), RadioTimes.com reports.

Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond play restless spirits who have died in the crumbling country pile over the centuries: each ghost a product of their time, resigned to squabbling with each other for eternity over inane daily gripes.

The spectral characters include a Tory MP who died in embarrasing circumstances, a 'wilderness club leader' and a witch.

Ghosts is due to air on BBC One next year.
