Protests at Louis CK's comedy club appearance
Louis CK made another appearance in a New York comedy club last night – but this time was greeted by a small protest.
The comic has previously made unannounced appearances at the Comedy Cellar in Greenwich Village since his career imploded when it was revealed he has masturbated in front of colleagues .
But this time he was listed on the line-up posted outside the venue for the first time, which prompted two women to create home-made signs to protest his appearance.
One said: ‘When you support Louis CK, you tell women your laughter is more important than their sexual assaults and loss of their careers.’
The other said: ‘Does this sign make you uncomfortable, Louie?’
New York Times journalist Sopan Deb, who was in the audience, reported that as in previous appearances, CK put the focus on how the scandal had affected him. ‘I need to make jokes because I need an income,’he said, claiming he lost $35 million ‘in an hour’ when the story of his misconduct broke.
He reportedly kicked off his set by saying: ’So what kind of year have you guys had?’, adding that he didn’t read much about himself online.
Last week, Sarah Silverman came forward to say that Louis CK had masturbated in front of her too, but said that their encounter was consensual and had no issue with his behaviour.
But she later apologised to Rebecca Corry, one of the women who was sexually harassed by CK, saying: ‘It’s not OK.’
Deb posted these images of the protesters, Jennifer Boudinot and Lana McCrea, on Twitter:
