Funny buddies
The comedy week ahead...
Sunday October 14
WELLS: The Long Paws comedy night in Somerset has another outstanding bill with Father Ted, My Hero and Death In Paradise star Ardal O'Hanlon headlining alongside the funny desperation of Sean McLoughlin and infectiously upbeat Jarred Christmas.
Monday October 15
LONDON: The Shake With Laughter benefit to help combat Parkinson's disease comes to the Comedy Store, with the newly announced host of the 2018 Royal Variety Performance, Greg Davies proving the biggest draw. The line-up also includes Angela Barnes, Jarred Christmas, Rob Deering and veteran comedy writer Paul Mayhew-Archer, who has the disease.
Tuesday October 16
MANCHESTER: Monty Python’s Eric Idle discusses his ‘Sortabiography’ in an evening with… event at the Comedy Store.
LONDON: Steve O’Neil from Dara O Briain’s Go 8 Bit launches a new night, The Video Game Game Show Show, at the Phoenix just off Oxford Circus. The format involves audience and comedians facing off across the console, with Edinburgh Comedy Award winner and nominee Rose Matafeo and Glenn Moore tonight’s guests.
Wednesday October 17
DUBLIN: It probably isn’t an immediately obvious comedy partnership, but after Jon Stewart made a surprise appearance at Dave Chappelle’s Radio City Music Hall show in New York City last August, a union of socially and politically astute comedy greats was forged. They’ve played a series of dates across the US, and now they are crossing the Atlantic for a date at 3Arena tonight. It will be followed by two shows at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Sunday and Monday.
BATH: Fin Taylor is usually described as ‘provocative’… which as he acknowledges means offensive but educated. Fortunately, he’s very funny too, as he dances around the hottest of hot-button topics. His latest show, When Harassy Met Sally, concerns itself with the #MeToo movement and more, and it starts a UK tour at the Rondo Theatre tonight. Dates.
Friday October 19
LONDON: It’s that Fin Taylor again, this time sharing a bill with super-productive gag machine Glenn Moore and the often dark thoughts of Catastrophe co-star and co-creator Rob Delaney at the Bush Hall in Shepherds Bush.
Saturday October 20
NOTTINGHAM: Lovers of laconic stand-up are in for a treat at Just The Tonic at the Belgrave Rooms tonight, with the double attractions of Reginald D Hunter and Tom Stade; contrasted with the more upbeat observation of award-nominated Larry Dean.
