Prosectors say there's insufficient evidence to proceed

The Crown Prosecution Service has dropped the assault case against Mark Lamarr on the eve of his planned court appearance.

The former Never Mind The Buzzcocks presenter was due in court tomorrow charged with common assault and false imprisonment.

But the prosecutors said there was insufficient evidence to provide a realistic prospect of prosecution.

The 51-year-old  comic, real name Mark Jones, was originally charged on September 1 over a reported incident in Chiswick, West London.

Professionally, Lamarr was also a team captain on Reeves and Mortimer’s panel show Shooting Stars, where he was relentlessly mocked for being a ‘Fifties throwback’.

He co-wrote Sean Lock’s sitcom 15 Storeys High and has a long career as a radio presenter, predominantly with Radio 2.
