Survey: Northerners are funnier than Southerners
Northerners are funnier than Southerners - even according to Southerners, a study has found.
A poll of 1,500 Brits found that 74 per cent thought those living in the north of England and Scotland were the funniest. Even 61 per cent of Southerners even reckoned those living in the north were funnier than them.
Scousers such as comics John Bishop, Stan Boardman and the late Sir Ken Dodd were voted the funniest with 23 per cent of the overall vote, while those from Brighton were voted the least funny. Glaswegians were voted as the ‘dirtiest’ jokers.
The funniest cities were voted as follows;
1: Liverpool - 23 per cent
2: Newcastle - 14 per cent
3: London - 12 per cent
4: Manchester - 10 per cent
5: Glasgow - 10 per cent
The least funny cities were:
1: Brighton - 2 per cent
2: Belfast - 3 per cent
3: Birmingham - 3 per cent
4: Bristol - 3 per cent
5: Edinburgh - 4 per cent
The poll was conducted to plug the Comedy Central Live event in Southampton next month – headlined by Southerners Jimmy Carr and Russell Howard, and Canadian Katherine Ryan.
