Actress Elmarie Wendel, who played eccentric landlady Mrs Dubcek on 3rd Rock From The Sun, has died at the age of 78.

Her daughter, actress Jennifer 'J.C.' Wendel, confirmed her mother's death on Instagram saying: 'You were a great mom and a badass dame.'

No cause of death was given.

Wendel began her career on the stage in New York, and toured with Annie, which took her to Los Angeles, where she moved into film and TV.

She landed he role of Mrs Dubcek, in NBC's hit sitcom in 1996 and started with the show until it ended in 2001.

She then went on to have recurring roles in NYPD Blue and The George Lopez Show.

Her other TV credits include Murder She Wrote, Murphy Brown, and Seinfeld, where she played Helene, an elderly resident of the apartment complex where Kramer stays at while he is living in Hollywood.
