New VR comedy from People Just Do Nothing duo

Semi-improvised show with the creator of Skins

The creators of People Just Do Nothing and Skins are joining forces for a new comedy series set in a virtual reality world.

With the working title Gary1987, the show is a collaboration between  Steve Stamp and Allan Mustafa – who play Steves and MC Grindah in the BBC Three comedy – and Skins co-creator Bryan Elsley.

Stamp and Mustafa will also star in the series, about a rookie who enters the VR world to make money but ends up way over his head.

The semi-improvised series will be directed by Jack Clough, who worked on both Skins and People Just Do Nothing.

And it will be produced by Balloon Entertainment, the company Elsley set up with Harry Enfield,  and Canadian media giant eOne. No broadcaster has yet been linked to the show.

Elsley– who co-created Skins with his teenage son Jamie Britain –said: ‘I’m beyond happy to be teaming up with the hilarious People Just Do Nothing team. Their freewheeling comedy style and off the wall flavour makes irresistible viewing.

‘We look forward to some glorious semi-improvised characters, doing truly stupid things.’

People Just Do Nothing  – also created by  Hugo Chegwin and Asim Chaudhry – is to come to an end with its fifth series later this year. The Kurupt FM crew yesterday announced they would be going on what will probably be their last tour, too.
