That's £7,000 a candle...
Ronnie Barker’s handwritten script for the famous 'four candles' sketch has sold for £28,000 at auction.
But it’s £20,000 less than it fetched when it last went under the hammer seven years ago.
The script was written by Ronnie Barker in red ink and submitted to the show under his pseudonym Gerald Wiley, so producers would not know it was him
It was uncovered on Antiques Roadshow in 2006, when Ronnie Corbett verified it was authentic, and was auctioned for £48,000 the following year.
The script was sold today by East Bristol Auctions, which said the 1976 sketch ‘epitomises British humour’ and is ‘part of the British consciousness.’
