When Hari met Netlfix
This week’s comedy on demand…
Hari Kondabolu: Warn Your Relatives
This week's Netflix stand-up special comes from sharp comic Hari Kondabolu – the man who launched the campaign highlighting what he sees as the racism inherent in The Simpsons characterisation of Apu.
Here he offers political comedy, insisting he's trying not to talk about Donald Trump... though of course he just can't help himself. The special is shot through with meta-jokes about the mechanics of comedy as well as more straightforward observational routines. Watch here.
Radio 4 Extra Comedy Club at Machynlleth
The comedy industry generally isn't welcome at this boutique Welsh festival, but an exception is made for Radio 4 Extra, which regularly broadcasts from the event. A new bath of five-minute interviews with the comedians performing there has just begun, with Nick Mohammed, Beth Vyse and Lisa Curry the first to be featured. Listen here – with all the chats from previous years, too.
Heavy Chemistry
This strange and lust-driven short comedy film is a mix of the funny peculiar and funny ha-ha, with a punchline to explain the weird sexual chemistry. Written, directed and edited by Blair Rowan, the film had its world premiere at the South By South West Festival earlier this year and was released on Vimeo yesterday:
Damien Power - Sell Mom Into Slavery
Australian comic Damien Power, known for approaching big global questions from nationalism to the wealth gap with a swaggering performance, is the latest stand-up to be added to comedy-on-demand subscription service NextUp. Watch his special here, if you're signed up.
