TV goes inside the Comedy Cellar
A new TV show is to be filmed around the famed ‘comics’ table’ at New York’s Comedy Cellar.
Comedy Central in the States has commissioned a topical show based on stand-up routines shot in the celebrated Manhattan club.
Those clips will be interspersed with footage of the comedians debating the week’s topics and discussing the origins of their material around the
Each episode of This Week At The Comedy Cellar, which is still a working title, will run for 30 minutes, but it is not yet known if the show will be screened in the UK, nor which comedians will be taking part.
The US broadcaster has also commissioned Alternatino With Arturo Castro, a Latino-focused sketch series from the Broad City regular.
It has also ordered pilots for animated comedy Mall Town USA; Awkwafina, a half-hour scripted narrative about twentysomething New York rapper Nora Lum and titled after her stage name; Robbie, about an overzealous rural basketball coach starring and co-written by comic Rory Scovel; Kevin vs. Josh from Broad City’s Kevin Barnett and Josh Rabinowitz; and topical show Verified with David Spade, which takes its cues from social media.
