David Baddiel vs the trolls
David Baddiel his revealed that his next stand-up show will revolve around the topic of online abuse.
The show has the working title Trolls: Not the Dolls and follows his success with My Family: Not the Sitcom – which is still on tour – and Fame: Not The Musical.
Baddiel constantly breaks the first rule of the internet and engages with those who send him bitter messages online.
For example, in response to one Twitter user who posted: ‘The only thing I want to read concerning you is your obituary,’ the comic posted: ‘Oh well. At least *I*’ll get one, eh Nick?’
‘David has always seen trolls as hecklers,’ his agents Avalon say. ‘And if you get heckled, it is a comedian’s duty not to ignore the heckler but to wittily put them down.’
As well as retelling some of his exchanges, the show is also described as ‘a bit of a self-help manual’ for those struggling to know how to deal with trolls.
‘David has stories to tell, of the dark, terrible and hysterically absurd cyber-paths interacting with trolls has led him down,’ says the official blurb for the show.
The first outing for the new show will be a two-week work-in-progress residency at London’s Soho Theatre from October 1.
